The BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) has given an extension to the IPL teams to submit their list of players retained and released from the team for the next IPL season (2027). The teams are allowed to make their final decision by November 17, 2026; which was originally scheduled as November 15, 2026.
The extra two days allow franchises more time to review their roster, prepare for the next mini-auction, etc. This is in response to the fact that the initial deadline was scheduled for the same day as the 5th ODI match between India and New Zealand.
The mini-auction for IPL 2027 is set to happen in Goa on December 16th. This is going to be a one-day auction, and teams are expected to make bids on players to help build up their rosters ahead of the upcoming year.
In accordance with the modified calendar, the Player Registration Window is scheduled to close on November 23. Furthermore, Franchises are allowed to make further Player Registration Requests through November 27. It is anticipated that the IPL Governing Body will provide all Franchises with the final list of Auction Players who have completed registration, as well as their corresponding Set Assignments, by December 3.
Two Player Trades Completed Ahead of IPL 2027 Auction
The first trade was made before the auction. Delhi Capitals traded for their former captain Rishabh Pant from Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). In turn, LSG acquired Indian spinner Kuldeep Yadav.
In a different transaction, the Delhi Capitals exchanged fast bowler T Natarajan with the Sunrisers Hyderabad in exchange for leg-spinner Zeeshan Ansari.
These moves may affect how each franchise will plan to keep their players prior to the November 17 deadline.
IPL 2027 Season Dates Yet to Be Confirmed
The BCCI has yet to release the official schedule for IPL 2027. However, previous plans suggested a potential tournament duration of March 14 – May 30. Also, BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia stated in September 2026 that the competition may commence around the last week of March.
The 2027 auction marks the end of the first mini-auction period in the current IPL cycle. After that, a mega-auction is anticipated to occur prior to the start of the 2028 season. This will also mark the beginning of the next media rights cycle for the IPL.
